After 2 years in the making, the paper describing the Propensity to Cycle Tool (PCT) was published in the Journal of Transport and Land Use.

The PCT is an online tool for helping decide where to prioritise cycling policies such as new cycle paths. It lives at http://www.pct.bike

The PCT would not have been possible without CycleStreets.net, so this article serves as a big Thank You to them.

Key points

  • Uses Census origin-destination data
  • Provides scenarios for cycling potential
  • Routes generated by CycleStreets.net
  • Free and open source

The tool has been used by local authorities across the UK to plan cycling infrastructure.
